Casting with heavy rain: Study of the accidents occured when placing concrete on a post-tensioned bridge deck
Abstract
When placing concrete on a two 35 m length span bridge deck, near Bilbao, several accidents occured: - Collapse of the internal forms made with spanded metal. - Interruption of the placing process and formation of ""cold-joints"". - Possibility of alteration of fresh concrete due to water action. The study here described deals with the following problems: - Time of tensioning and tensioning operations. - Minimum period before striking. - Shear at the interfaces. - Safety factor of the whole deck.
