Application of prestressing in steel structures

Abstract

In this paper several prestressed steel structures are presented. The reason to choose this solution was different from case to case. In some structures, prestressing was necessary because of aesthetic conditions as for example slenderness requirements. In other structure, temporary situations during erection, where the statical system was very different from the final situation, required the application of this technique. In the last of the presented cases, prestressing cables had to be used to formalize a structural idea.
