Arch bridge over the Burguillo reservoir (Ávila) design, construction supervision and monitoring

Abstract

In this paper the main ideas guiding the design of the arch bridge over the Burguillo reservoir are presented. A comparison with other arch structures recently built is undertaken with special emphasis in pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of the different solutions both from the design and functional points of view, as well as from the point of view of construction, this being a very important aspect for this structural typology. Finally, a small summary of the measurements taken during the construction of the arch is presented including measurements of provisional stay forces and strains and temperatures in the arch.
