Monitoring of the Almonte Viaduct during construction

Abstract

The procedure for monitoring the construction process of the viaduct over the Almonte River is presented together with some relevant results. The technical assistance and data processing of instrumentation is developed at the same time in the viaducts of Almonte and Tajo, both large concrete railway arches. The nature of the monitored variables and the procedure to integrate the data from different sources and their periodic processing are described, coinciding with the cyclic stages of the construction. Some representative results are presented with particular attention in wind response for its incidence in the provisional cables which were very long in the final phases. The paper ends with some reflections on the standardization of the monitoring of large infrastructures and its continuity in the exploitation and maintenance stage.
