Conceptual design, construction project and technical assistance for the concrete works of the buildings and infrastructures of the new Terminal Area
Abstract
This paper presents the conceptual design and various specific aspects of the structures and infrastructures of the New Terminal Area of Madrid - Barajas Airport. The large dimension of the project and the reduced time of construction have strongly conditioned the choice of the various structural solutions adopted. Construction systems typically used in bridges have been used for the structure of this building. Similarly, building details have been used as ideal solutions for the bridges which were designed for the access to the building. Several structural materials have been used in this project: Structural concrete (normal reinforced, slightly reinforced, pre-stressed, as well as pre-cast and in-situ), steel, composite structures and textile and glass structures.
